Good Places to Visit in Vedado
Vedado is the most cosmopolitan Havana neighborhood. It belongs to Plaza de la Revolución municipality and it is considered one of the best neighborhoods in Havana.
The Vedado´s architecture is from the 50´s years and there is a considerable influence of the USA´s style of those years. The sidewalks have big trees which provide a nice shadow, so the sun won´t beat you a lot while you are walking. The streets are straight and its names are very easy; there are odd streets, for example, 19th Street, 21st Street , 23rd Street, etc, and even streets, for example, 8th Street, 10th Street, 12th Street and so on. The even numbers begins on one side of Paseo Avenue, on the other side there are streets with letters as the name, the order is according to the Latin alphabet, example, A Street, B Street and C Street, and so on. The odd streets are always perpendicular to the even streets and letter streets. As you can see, it is practically impossible to get lost in Vedado and it is very easy to find a place.
Vedado has a great economic and cultural activity. There are plenty of enterprises, business, shops, restaurants, clubs, cinemas, bars, discos and theaters. The main street is 23rd Avenue where it is the major traffic. Along this avenue you would be able to find the main Havanas cinemas: "Yara"(23rd and L streets), "Charles Chaplin" (23rd and 10th streets) , "La Rampa" (23rd and O streets), "Riviera" (23rd and G streets) and "23 y 12" (23rd and 12th streets).
"La Fábrica de Arte" is in Vedado(26th and 11th streets). It is a very popular place which is included in the top 10 places to visit in Havana. The line to get in this place is very long and it is very advisable to get there before 10:00 pm if you don´t to wait more than 1 hour in the line. This place opens from Thursday to Sunday from 8:00 pm to 3:00 am. Inside there are concert halls, live music, expositions of paints and crafts, a cinema, a theater and several cocktail bars where you can get Cuban drinks like "Mojito".
Nowadays the cocktail bars are very popular in Vedado, they have drinks, food and music like "Salsa" and "Regueatton". Some of these bars are very nice: "La Esencia" Bar-Restaurant (Línea and B streets), the "Corner Café" Bar-Restaurant (B and 1st streets), the "Sarao" Bar-Restaurant (17th and E streets) and the "King Bar" Bar-Restaurant(23rd and E streets).
There are a lot of places to dance and listen to music in Vedado. The "House 1830"(Malecón and 20th ) is a perfect place to dance "Salsa"(the dance which was born in Cuba), from Friday to Sunday this place only plays Salsa music every night, so it is a great choice to go there if you want to dance this kind of music. Also there are a lot of discos with a varied music, for example, "El Turquino" disco with live music at the top of the "Habana Libre" Hotel (23rd and L streets), the "Pico Blanco" disco at the top of the "St John" Hotel (23rd and O streets), the "Habana Café" Club at "Meliá Cohíba" Hotel(Paseo and 1st streets), the "Salón Rojo" Cabaret(21st and N streets) with a nice musical show, the "Jazz Club La Zorra y el Cuervo"(23rd and O streets) which is a very nice place to see outstanding Cuban musicians while playing jazz, the "Café Concierto Gato Tuerto"(17th and O) which usually has 3 concerts of different bands and musicians the same night, the "Submarino Amarillo"(17th and 6th streets) with a different concert of a rock band every night, the "Café TV" Club(19th and N streets) with good music to dance, the "El Cocodrilo" Club(10th and 3rd streets) with an excellent Cuban humor and the "Parisien" Cabaret at the "Nacional" Hotel(21st and O streets) with a great musical and dancing show.
If you go to walk to Malecón you will spend a peaceful time while you enjoy an exotic and beautiful sea view. Malecón is an 8km-long sea drive which is one of the main avenues in Havana and it is the border with the sea of Vedado, Centro Habana and Old Havana neighborhoods. There is a small wall where there are people sat on it at all hours, because of this it is called the Havanas sofa.
Also there are a lot of places to eat in Vedado: "El Decamerón"(Paseo and Línea streets) is a very good restaurant with Cuban food, "La Cocina de Esteban"(21st and L streets) is a nice restaurant with Cuban, Italian and Spanish food, "El Emperador"(17th and M streets) is a restaurant with great plates where a musician plays a piano, and "Waoo"(L and 25th streets), which is a very popular snack bar with very tasty light food. It is possible to find many others small restaurants and places to eat on the main 23rd Avenue.
There are no doubts that Vedado is a great neighborhood which a wide variety of places to spend a wonderful time while you are in Havana.
